It was much more than the predictions of fortune cookies, more than the foretelling by others at an early age, I was to be an artist that steered me toward art. The daily desire to create must be fulfilled, it has its power over me and that I do not protest.

What I paint is me… what I’m missing and what I’ve found, where I’m going and with whom. Symbols and shapes come up, colors take on certain meanings and all the while I am fascinated and fed. For though I put a medium down on a support, paint to canvas for instance, I do not feel I work alone. It is that flow, zone, Muse, that ineffable interaction that is so comforting and joy filled. Every piece is a surprise; the elements of art combining in magical ways that leave me smiling. I strive for beauty and meaning. I want to give my all and experience this ‘help’.

Ultimately these works are notes to myself, fanciful reminders; be courageous, be curious, alter my perspective and embrace change. There are others…do you know the feeling of stillness and serenity, of safe places and companions? It would be so pleasing to me if, on my visual journey, my paintings would be helpful to you too. Look at them closely or from a distance either way my intent is that you enjoy and know you are not alone in your struggles. Weave your own story or know mine, both are sound and are of value.

Technically speaking I work in acrylic and mixed media, on canvas or supports I make myself out of layers of paper with torn edges. I have been known to use everything from chalk, wax crayon, and rice paper to additions of collage with ribbon, torn pieces of old cards, even sacrilegiously glitter in my work.
